Red Deer's Choice for a Superior Portrait
Experience.

The History of Traptow Photography:
Rod & June Traptow moved from Calgary to Red Deer in 1991 to open a
photography studio. Coincidental to their relocation, they purchased an
existing studio, Foto Bull Studio, which had been operating in Red Deer
since 1955. Mr Bull was the original owner/operator and upon his untimely
death in 1957, his wife who was pregnant and had no photography
experience, found it necessary to continue with the business. In 1974, Mrs
Bull sold her studio to Ken and Diana Stock; they continued with the name
Foto Bull and then sold it in 1991 to Rod & June. The Traptow’s
incorporated Foto Bull Studio with their own studio and changed the name
to Traptow Photography in 1993. In 1995, Traptow Photography was awarded
the Small Business of the Year Award by the Red Deer Chamber of Commerce,
thereby proving the viability and success of the business. Unfortunately,
Rod Traptow passed away unexpectedly in May 2005, after which June decided
she did not want to continue the business without him. In November 2005,
Jonathan and Denise Elhard purchased Traptow Photography and relocated
from Hanna.
A brief history on the Traptow Photography Studio
which is located at 4419 – 55 Street:
Originally the land housed Mount Calvary Lutheran Church, as well as the
Pastoral Home, from 1953 until 1973. There was a short period of time when
the Knights of Columbus met in the building, after which the Red Deer
Funeral Home purchased the building. The funeral home renovated the
building to include additional office space and parking; they ran their
business from this location until the summer of 1993. Traptow Photography
purchased, renovated, and moved into the building in April 1994.
